Kearney Cruise Nite Recap

Wow, what a Cruise Nite!

Every summer, the Central Nebraska Auto Club helps put together Kearney Cruise Nite. The five day event encourages those who want to relive “the good ole days” to come out with family, friends, and of course, their classic cars.

We were so excited to help kick off the week at our headquarters for a “Show and Shine” and local food trucks.

The next night, a picnic was hosted in Old Town Kearney. Other events were put on by Kearney’s Knights of Columbus. Visitors had the chance to participate in the “Classic Car Tour” to local, assisted living and nursing homes. The parade of classic cars is always a huge highlight of the week!

The following evenings, more “Show & Shines” were sponsored by local business along with food and drink and oldies music.

“Elvis, Rock & Remember” was even held at the Merryman Performing Arts Center!

The classic and collectible car auction was held with Rusty Rhynalds and car enthusiasts got some great deals. Downtown on the Bricks hosted the first annual hot dog eating contest sponsored by Sprockets Famous Freedom Dogs.

Kearney Raceway Park saw the NAPA Quick Race and “Sport Grudge Racing” featuring Keith Jackson’s funny car.

The streets were filled with classic cars and numerous car enthusiasts and spectators who took in the parade. Behind the entire event is a philanthropic desire is to raise money for numerous charities in the Kearney area.

The charities that have benefited from Cruise Nite are:  Buffalo County Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, Flight for Hero’s, Make A Wish Foundation, Goodfellows, Jubilee Center, City of Kearney Police Department and scholarship for students in Automotive Tech.

We are proud to play a role in such a fun event for our community and are already looking forward to next year.
