24th Annual Tour Nebraska, 600+ Miles Across the Plains!

Several BluePrint Engines employees hit the road with nearly 400 other classic cars and trucks for the 24thAnnual NRCA Tour Nebraska.

The car club NRCA, Nebraska Rod & Custom Association, gathered 398 of their members to take to the back roads for a weekend of driving their old cars and exploring our great state of Nebraska.

Since the 383 is one of the more popular engines we build here at BluePrint Engines, it’s no surprise that was the crate engine configuration of choice for a lot of drivers. Since these are no trailer queens, people need a reliable, yet powerful power plant and no one knows this better than our very own BluePrint Engines employees!

Each year the NRCA picks a new town to start their daily road trip. This year’s tour starting point was nearby Grand Island. The participants meet up at 6 am Saturday and Sunday morning to head off in a convoy of classic rides.

The club does a fantastic job of organizing everything from the route, to the rest and lunch stops, to having rescue vehicles follow along for those who need roadside service.

Every participant gets a map of the route, but the club makes it even easier by having volunteers manning each turn in the route to show the way.

Brad Kernick, Vice President of the NRCA, told us that there are thousands of car shows every year, but there are not many events where people get out and drive their classics. The club wanted an event that was different from the rest.

NRCA President, Gary Hedman, told us that he went to a big car show 25 years ago that turned out to be a very hot and humid weekend, but he and his buddies couldn’t get over how much fun the drive to and from that show was that year. Soon, they were talking about creating an event that was all about driving their hot rods, and Tour Nebraska was born.

If this sounds like something you would like to join in on next year, check out NRCA’s website for more information.
